It would be like an author moving to another publisher and not being able to read his or her previous books. Some large US software companies take "proprietary" to the point of not even allowing developers to keep code on their laptops. Looking at your points, I largely agree with 1). As for 2), that I think is one of the biggest benefits of Open Source, but it doesn't happen by itself, it's not enough that something is "Open Source" and suddenly there is a world of Developers working on it. The software has to have some appeal to those users and there has to be a big enough community. For software that in some way benefits the world or something, but of which there are few users and not wide-spread knowledge, OSS doesn't actually help much. As for point 3) that depends on what you mean by "taken away" from you. I'd say this is more related to the license attached to your work than to it actually being Open Source.
